Breaking news: Patriots disclose on engaging in draft trades to move back in selections

The New England Patriots currently hold a prime position to potentially select a top quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, there’s speculation that they might entertain the idea of trading back if circumstances don’t align favorably for them. Nevertheless, the likelihood of such a move seems minimal.

In his recent Sports Illustrated column, Albert Breer mentioned that the teams owning the first three draft picks—namely the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots—haven’t shown any inclination towards trading down. The Bears seem destined to pick Caleb Williams as the top overall selection, especially after their recent trade involving Justin Fields. Similarly, Washington, in need of a quarterback, is expected to choose either Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye at No. 2.

If the Patriots indeed intend to retain their pick, it suggests they hold confidence in both Daniels and Maye. Another possibility is the selection of standout wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., although it’s probable they would have pursued a top quarterback more aggressively in free agency if that were their primary route.

It’s conceivable that New England is considering drafting either Daniels or Maye and allowing them a season to develop. With the addition of Jacoby Brissett in free agency, there’s speculation he might serve as a transitional quarterback for the Patriots in 2024.

While quarterback remains their most pressing need, the Patriots must be assured that the player they select at No. 3 possesses the potential to become a cornerstone of the franchise. It’s plausible that they view both Daniels and Maye as possessing the requisite high ceilings to fulfill this role.
