The Transfer Portal can be both a boon and a setback for the Miami Hurricanes. Running back Henry Parrish, Jr. is reportedly set to join the portal, which would undoubtedly weaken Miami’s running back lineup, as noted by 247’s Gaby Urrutia. Parrish’s departure, if it materializes, represents a significant blow to the team, considering his impressive 2023 rushing stats of 100 attempts, 625 yards, a 6.3-yard average, and 6 touchdowns, according to CFB Stats. Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 190 pounds, Parrish’s absence would leave a noticeable gap in the running back corps.
Adding to the challenge, rising sophomore Mark Fletcher, Jr. is recuperating from a complicated Lisfranc injury, which may jeopardize his readiness for the upcoming season. This injury, known for its complexity and potential for further complications, raises doubts about Fletcher’s availability for fall camp or even the season opener against Florida on August 31st.
Meanwhile, there are concerns regarding TreVonte’ Citizen’s ability to handle a substantial workload in the upcoming season, given his physical resemblance to Fletcher and a history of lower body injuries over the past two years.
In the event of Parrish’s departure, former Nebraska running back Ajay Allen could step up to shoulder more carries. Allen, known for his agility and speed in open-field situations, posted respectable numbers in 2023 with 70 carries, 361 yards, a 5.2-yard average, and 5 touchdowns.
Despite these setbacks, Miami has a reservoir of talent among its younger running backs, including Chris Johnson, Jr., Chris Wheatley-Humphrey, and Jordan Lyle, any of whom could potentially step up to mitigate the loss of Parrish, Fletcher, or Citizen.
