LSU women’s coach Kim Mulkey spoke to the media on Saturday amid rumors of an upcoming Washington Post article about her, even going as far as threatening legal action against the newspaper.
During her press conference in Baton Rouge, Mulkey acknowledged the forthcoming article, mentioning that former players have warned her about its potentially negative portrayal. Expressing frustration, Mulkey criticized the media’s trustworthiness and vowed to defend herself, her team, and LSU against any unwarranted attacks. She emphasized her readiness to take legal measures, having enlisted a top defamation law firm.
Mulkey, known for her successful coaching career at Baylor and LSU, including multiple NCAA championships, has not shied away from controversy, notably supporting Baylor’s football program during a sexual assault and Title IX scandal in 2017. With an impressive track record, Mulkey’s teams have achieved remarkable success, including a national title in her second season at LSU, where she maintains an exceptional win-loss record. Currently, LSU is set to face Middle Tennessee State in the NCAA Tournament’s second round on Sunday.
