In Chicago, the St. Louis Cardinals have bolstered their roster by signing Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson, while the Chicago Cubs have made additions with Shota Imanaga and Hector Neris. Even the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates have been active in free agency.
Currently, there are no teams in the NL Central that are intentionally tanking, creating a wide-open competition within the division. Over the past six years, the division title has been claimed by either St. Louis or Milwaukee in five of those years.
In 2023, it was the Milwaukee Brewers who emerged victorious, finishing nine games ahead of the second-place Chicago Cubs. However, the Brewers’ rotation suffered a setback with Corbin Burnes being traded to Baltimore and Brandon Woodruff undergoing shoulder surgery.
