NC State made a stunning leap into the Final Four on Sunday, pulling off a surprising upset against Duke, the fourth-seeded team. In the aftermath of the game, Wolfpack’s center DJ Burns added some light-hearted banter aimed at Blue Devils’ standout Jared McCain through social media.
On his Instagram Story, Burns shared a video featuring teammate DJ Horne sinking a 3-pointer after tricking McCain with a pump fake. Playfully, Burns edited McCain’s dancing footage into the clip.
McCain is notable for his dance videos on TikTok, which have been subject to online jests due to his distinctive style and painted fingernails. Interestingly, while Burns teased McCain, it’s worth noting that McCain’s remarkable performance was pivotal for Duke’s competitiveness in the game. The guard scored an impressive 32 points and secured six rebounds, accounting for half of Duke’s total points, with no other player from the team managing to score more than 13.
Despite McCain’s standout performance, Burns emerged as a key figure in securing victory for NC State, amassing 29 points on 13-for-19 shooting, along with four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. His stellar display even caught the attention of NBA star Nikola Jokic, who praised Burns for his skill and camaraderie.
NC State’s remarkable journey continues as they brace themselves for a challenging matchup against the top-seeded Purdue Boilermakers, led by Zach Edey. Purdue clinched their first Final Four appearance since 1980, with Edey’s outstanding performance, scoring a career-high 40 points against Tennessee.
The Wolfpack’s momentum has been impressive, winning nine consecutive games since ending the regular season on a four-game losing streak. Their path to the Final Four has been marked by victories in the ACC Tournament, eliminating formidable opponents like Duke and North Carolina, and progressing through the NCAA Tournament with wins against teams like Texas Tech, Oakland, and Marquette.
