On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates traded right-hander Austin Strickland to the San Francisco Giants in return for catcher Joey Bart. To accommodate Bart on the 40-man roster, Pittsburgh designated right-hander Colin Selby for assignment.
Bart, who was the second overall pick in the 2018 draft, had been designated for assignment by San Francisco on Sunday. During his time with the Giants, spanning four seasons, Bart accumulated a batting average of .219 with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs over 162 regular-season games. Last year, Bart, who is 27 years old, only played in 30 games for San Francisco, batting .207 with no home runs and five RBIs. Strickland, aged 21, has not yet made an appearance in any games at any level.
He was selected by the Pirates in the eighth round of the 2023 MLB Draft. Selby, who is 26, recorded a record of 2-2 with a 9.00 ERA in 21 appearances, including five starts, for Pittsburgh last season. As of now, he has not pitched in the 2024 season.
