Julian Blackmon, Indianapolis Colts, Agree to Contract
Throughout the 2023 season, Blackmon demonstrated his prowess on the field, starting all 15 games he played for the Colts. His performance reached new heights, tallying 88 tackles (65 solo), four interceptions (leading the team), eight passes defended, and five tackles for loss, all of which marked career highs. Unfortunately, a shoulder injury sidelined him for the final two games of the season, potentially preventing him from surpassing the 100-tackle mark and adding to his turnover count.
Drafted by the Colts in the third round (85th overall pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft, Blackmon swiftly emerged as a significant contributor during his rookie campaign. Notably, he secured his maiden career interception against the Chicago Bears in Week 4 and forced a crucial fumble in overtime against the Green Bay Packers in Week 11, aiding the Colts in clinching a 34-31 victory. He started 14 games his rookie year, culminating the season with two interceptions, six passes defended, a forced fumble, and 42 tackles (including three for a loss).
Unfortunately, Blackmon’s sophomore season was curtailed by injury when he tore his Achilles during Week 7 practice of the 2021 season, sidelining him for the remainder of the year after appearing in just six games. However, he made a successful return to the field in 2022, starting 11 of the 14 games he played. Notably, he scored his inaugural career touchdown in 2022, registering a pick-six during Week 15 against the Minnesota Vikings. Despite Blackmon’s interception aiding the Colts to a remarkable 30-0 lead, the Vikings staged a comeback, clinching a 39-36 victory.
Having spent his entire career in Indianapolis, Blackmon has accumulated notable statistics over four years, including seven interceptions, 17 passes defended, 214 combined tackles, two forced fumbles, and two quarterback hits.
