Oklahoma’s offensive line faces a setback as Troy Everett, the expected starting center, will be sidelined for the rest of spring and potentially the beginning of fall camp due to his knee injury. Coach Brent Venables disclosed this news following the team’s seventh spring practice. The injury occurred last Wednesday during practice, with Everett visibly limping and icing his knee afterward.
Venables expressed optimism about Everett’s recovery, aiming for his return by the end of fall camp, given the quality of medical care and Everett’s determination. However, this injury is a significant setback for the Sooners’ offensive line, which is already in transition due to multiple departures from last season.
Everett’s absence is particularly challenging as he was one of the few returning players with starting experience on the offensive line. Alongside Jacob Sexton, he provided a foundation for the unit. Despite this setback, the team has added new talent through transfers, bolstering the offensive line.
Expected to take over the starting center position in 2024, Everett’s previous experience and performance were key to Oklahoma’s plans for the upcoming season.
