The Buffalo Sabres will extend their playoff drought to 13 years, failing to secure a First Round matchup once again. However, there’s a silver lining: the team, which has been one of the NHL’s youngest and least experienced, will mature heading into the 2024-25 season, suggesting improved performance.
Looking ahead, the upcoming summer presents a significant opportunity for general manager Kevyn Adams. He aims to bolster the team’s talent pool, transitioning from contending for the Eastern Conference’s wild card spots to securing a spot within them by April 2025.
Adams has several options at his disposal. He could weaken a divisional rival by acquiring one of their players or orchestrate a major trade to bring in a high-caliber player. Moreover, the possibility of a former Sabre returning to the team adds an intriguing twist to the equation.
It would be great to see some former Buffalo Sabres rejoin the team
It’s not uncommon for players to begin their careers with one team, venture elsewhere, and then return—a trend seen across various North American professional sports leagues, including the NHL.
Among the many former Sabres players who have found success elsewhere, a select few stand out, including a defenseman, a goaltender, and a forward.
With careful management of the salary cap, the Sabres could potentially reunite this trio. However, it’s worth noting that two of these players would likely serve as temporary solutions for the 2024-25 season.
