Despite the Washington Capitals securing a playoff spot on Tuesday night with a late push, highly regarded prospect Ryan Leonard has chosen to return to Boston College rather than join the team for the postseason.
Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan expressed support for Leonard’s decision in a statement on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of his continued development at one of the nation’s top programs. MacLellan noted Leonard’s impressive achievements during his freshman year, including setting records for goal-scoring at Boston College and ranking among the top goal-scorers in the NCAA.
Selected by the Capitals as the No. 8 pick in the 2023 draft, Leonard played a key role in Boston College’s journey to the Frozen Four, contributing 60 points (31 goals, 29 assists) in 41 games. The Capitals remain committed to monitoring Leonard’s progress and eagerly anticipate his further growth following his successful debut season.
