On Monday, Wisconsin secured a valuable addition to their offensive line with Leyton Nelson, a transfer from Vanderbilt. Nelson, who previously played under current Badgers’ offensive line coach AJ Blazek, brings immediate assistance for the upcoming 2024 season. During his time at Vanderbilt last season, Nelson participated in 11 games, accumulating 60 snaps.
Ranked as a three-star transfer prospect and positioned as the 39th best offensive tackle in the transfer portal by 247sports, Nelson hails from Orlando and was initially recruited as a three-star prospect from Boone High School. His recruitment drew interest from prominent programs such as Auburn, Miami (FL), Florida State, Oregon, Penn State, Florida, USC, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky, among others.
Standing at an imposing 6-foot-6 and weighing 310 pounds, Nelson boasts three more years of eligibility, presenting a significant asset to Wisconsin’s lineup. His addition bolsters a Badgers’ roster that currently relies heavily on young talent, including true freshmen Kevin Heywood and Colin Cubberly, as well as walk-ons Peyton Lange and Kerry Kodanko.
Wisconsin’s acquisition of Nelson marks their 13th addition from the transfer portal since the culmination of the 2023 season, solidifying their position with a top 25 ranking in portal acquisitions, as reported by 247sports.
