Erik Karlsson, defenseman for the Pittsburgh Penguins, will be joining Sweden for the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship tournament. The Swedish Ice Hockey Federation announced Karlsson’s inclusion in the roster, along with Rasmus Dahlin and Victor Olofsson from the Buffalo Sabres, in a release on Monday. The tournament is scheduled for next month in Czechia, from May 10 to May 26.
Karlsson, aged 33, has represented Sweden in various international events, including the 2014 Olympics, as well as the 2010 and 2012 World Championships. He also took part in the 2016 World Cup.
Karlsson was acquired by the Penguins in a major trade in August. Throughout the 2023-24 season, he played in all 82 games and ranked third on the team in scoring with 56 points (11 goals, 45 assists), while averaging 24:16 of ice time per game.
