Devonta Davis, a key figure from the Deion Sanders Era at Jackson State football, has entered the NCAA transfer portal. The standout defensive lineman, pivotal in Jackson State’s consecutive SWAC titles in 2021 and 2022, made his decision known as he embarks on his graduate studies. Expressing gratitude, Davis thanked God, Jackson State University, his coaches, and teammates for their role in his journey.
He highlighted the personal growth he experienced both on and off the field during his time at Jackson State. Now, as a graduate with one year of eligibility remaining, Davis is exploring new opportunities.
Davis was part of the initial highly touted recruiting class under Deion Sanders, making an impact as a true freshman with impressive stats. Over his tenure, he proved himself a formidable force on the field. Under T.C. Taylor’s leadership, he continued to contribute significantly to the team’s defense. Standing at 6’3 and weighing 296 pounds, Davis is expected to attract considerable interest in the transfer portal. However, his departure leaves a noticeable gap in the Jackson State defense.
