Billy Richmond, a forward from Camden, N.J., signed a national letter of intent with the University of Arkansas and men’s basketball Coach John Calipari on Friday. Richmond, who stands at 6-6 and weighs 200 pounds, had previously committed to Calipari at Kentucky, choosing the Wildcats over Memphis, Alabama, and LSU back in December. Calipari, who recently became Arkansas’ coach after 15 seasons at Kentucky, welcomed Richmond officially after his visit to Fayetteville on Wednesday and Thursday.
ESPN national recruiting director Paul Biancardi described Richmond as a strong athlete with speed and quickness, particularly excelling in driving to the basket and finishing with authority. Although his shooting skills show promise, they still need development. Defensively, Richmond’s ability to guard multiple positions with his agility, strength, and long arms makes him stand out. He’s considered a consensus 4-star recruit, ranked as the No. 11 small forward and No. 38 overall prospect in the nation by ESPN.
Last year, Richmond averaged 17.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while playing for the N.J. Scholars on the Nike EYBL circuit, shooting 60% from two-point range. As a senior, he averaged 17.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, leading Camden to a 30-2 record and the New Jersey Group 2 championship. He also participated in the 2024 Jordan Brand Classic and the 2024 Iverson Classic.
Richmond becomes the fourth signee or commitment for Calipari at Arkansas, joining small forward Karter Knox, point guard Johnuel “Boogie” Fland, and former Kentucky freshman big man Zvonimir Ivisic. It’s worth noting that Richmond’s father played for Calipari at Memphis from 2002 to 2004.
