Jasiah Wagoner, a transfer defensive back from Oklahoma, announced on social media his commitment to Cal on Saturday.
Wagoner, who stands at 5-foot-11 and weighs 178 pounds, was highly recruited out of Spanaway, Washington, rated as a four-star prospect. However, injuries limited his playing time during his freshman season with the Sooners in 2023. Despite this, he managed to participate in seven games, including the final five, making three tackles and two pass breakups.
With three years of eligibility remaining, Wagoner may be seen as a long-term investment for the Golden Bears. However, such investments are becoming rarer in college football due to the high turnover facilitated by the transfer portal.
Excited to join the team, Wagoner expressed his enthusiasm on social media, eager to work with his new teammates. He mentioned @CoachTreW, @CoachTB02, and @MWCherrington in his post.
Wagoner was originally recruited by various schools, including Notre Dame, Miami, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington, before choosing Oklahoma. He enrolled there in January 2023.
Cal was seeking depth in their secondary, particularly with cornerback Collin Gamble and nickelback Kaylin Moore entering the transfer portal. Although the starters seemed established during spring, the situation could change based on performances in preseason training and early-season games.
At the conclusion of spring ball, the first-team secondary consisted of Marcus Harris and Nohl Williams at cornerback, Miles Williams and Craig Woodson at safety, with Matthew Littlejohn as the nickelback.
