The Cleveland Cavaliers are facing a tough challenge as they prepare for Game 5 of their NBA playoff series against the Orlando Magic. They’ll be without Jarrett Allen, sidelined due to a rib injury, a blow to the team as the series is tied at two games each.
Allen, a key player with impressive stats averaging 17 points and 13.8 rebounds per game in this series, unexpectedly appeared on the injury report on Tuesday. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff revealed that Allen got injured from an elbow during Game 4. Despite the injury, Allen contributed significantly in the last game.
Bickerstaff expressed worries about Allen’s safety and mobility on the court due to the injury, highlighting the need for players to move freely without risking further harm.
In Allen’s absence, the Cavaliers plan to adjust their lineup by starting guard Isaac Okoro, aiming for a smaller, more guard-oriented approach against the Magic. This strategy was successful earlier in the season when Evan Mobley was sidelined.
However, Okoro’s performance in the series has been lacking, with low scoring and issues with fouls and turnovers. This raises doubts about his effectiveness in an expanded role.
The Magic, especially since Wendell Carter Jr. joined the starting lineup, have dominated the last two games, outscoring and outrebounding the Cavaliers consistently. Allen’s absence provides an opportunity for Orlando to capitalize on.
The series’ dynamics are significantly altered by Allen’s absence. While it’s uncertain how the Magic will respond, the Cavaliers may either be demoralized or inspired to step up their game without such a critical player.
As Game 5 approaches, Cleveland will be desperate for a win, while Orlando needs to match their intensity to maintain their momentum in the series.
