Breaking news: Kansas lands Michigan brilliant player on long term deal

Kansas football has secured its inaugural transfer for the offseason. Amir Herring, formerly of Michigan, announced his commitment to KU on Thursday, opting for the Jayhawks over other Power 4 offers and expressions of interest. With four seasons of eligibility remaining, he is set to begin playing this fall.

Herring’s tenure at Michigan in 2023 saw him redshirt, featuring in just one game against Indiana in October. Initially enrolling in winter 2023, he spent spring with the Michigan program before entering the transfer portal on April 25.

As a high school standout, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 300 pounds, Herring garnered four-star recruit status. Michigan was his choice over offers from various schools including Arkansas, Michigan State, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Penn State. Notably, KU extended an offer to Herring during his high school days.

Herring’s addition fortifies KU’s connection to Detroit, with Chris Simpson playing a pivotal role in securing his commitment this time around. Additionally, Herring shares a familial tie with KU quarterback Isaiah Marshall.

According to 247Sports’ Allen Trieu, Herring was projected as a potential Power 4 starter coming out of high school. Here’s a glimpse into Trieu’s scouting report on the promising offensive lineman.
