Minnesota has secured a commitment from 6’6 wing Femi Odukale, who previously played at New Mexico State, Seton Hall, and Pittsburgh. Odukale, a seasoned player who has started 80 college basketball games, recently visited the Gophers’ campus and has been scouted by the coaching staff on the East Coast. This marks Odukale’s fourth transfer, entering his fifth year of college basketball.

Minnesota sought size, toughness, and agility on the wing, qualities they find in Odukale despite his extensive collegiate journey. Beginning his career at Pitt, he averaged 6.6 points in his freshman year and 11 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game as a sophomore. His junior year at Seton Hall saw a dip in performance, averaging 7.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Last season at New Mexico State, he averaged 10.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as a senior.

With one year of eligibility remaining due to the COVID-affected freshman season, Odukale has started 80 out of 111 career games. His career statistics include a 32% three-point shooting rate, 54% free throw rate, and 42.3% overall shooting rate, averaging nine points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game across his collegiate journey.

Originally from South Shore High School in Brooklyn, Odukale achieved national recognition as a senior and later attended Springfield Commonwealth Academy for a post-grad year, showcasing impressive all-around skills. Despite transferring between multiple schools over the past six years, Odukale has maintained academic excellence. He is expected to turn 24 next season, considering his prep year.

Two years ago, Odukale faced the Gophers while playing for Pitt, though it was a challenging shooting game for him, scoring eight points on 2 of 8 shooting, yet contributing with five rebounds and five assists in 30 minutes of play.
