Breaking news: Sam Brown convinced message leak as he ask teammate to transfer to Miami football

Wide receiver Sam Brown reacted with surprise to the news shared by On3 transfer portal expert Pete Nakos that his former Houston teammate, cornerback Isaiah Hamilton, has entered the transfer portal, simply saying “Wowwww”. This reaction sparks speculation whether Brown might be subtly encouraging Hamilton to consider transferring to the Miami football program.

Brown himself recently made the move to Miami over the weekend. Hamilton had previously entered the transfer portal in December but later withdrew. Having played three seasons at Texas Southern before joining Houston in 2023, Hamilton showcased his skills with 50 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, eight pass breakups, and a forced fumble during his lone season with Houston in 2023.

Is Sam Brown lobbying for ex-Houston teammate to transfer to Miami football?

The decisions by both Brown and Hamilton to transfer came in the wake of Houston’s coaching change, with Dana Holgersen being replaced by Willie Fritz following a disappointing 4-8 season. Houston’s move to the Big XII in 2023 likely influenced these decisions. With the spring transfer portal deadline passed, Miami now has its sights set on bolstering its cornerback depth.

Standing at 6’1 and weighing 175 pounds, Hamilton’s physical attributes could offer Miami another cornerback option with size. Currently, Damari Brown (6’2) and Darryl Porter Jr. (5’10) are projected as Miami’s starting cornerbacks for 2024, but Hamilton could vie for the third cornerback spot in the rotation.

Ranked by On3 as the 79th overall transfer and the 10th cornerback, Hamilton’s potential addition would join Miami’s growing list of incoming transfers, which includes Brown and Marshall cornerback Dyoni Hill. While Hill could contend for the third cornerback role, Hamilton holds a higher ranking. However, despite Hamilton’s interest in considering Alabama, Michigan, Mississippi, and Missouri, Miami’s chances seem slim.

The transfer of safety Savion Riley might prompt Miami to deploy Washington transfer Mishael Powell more frequently at safety rather than at slot cornerback, where he played during spring. Consequently, Miami is expected to pursue another defensive back through the transfer portal, though Hamilton’s potential interest in other schools makes Miami’s chances uncertain.
