Kansas football secured its initial commitment from the spring transfer portal on Thursday, marking a significant addition to their team. Amir Herring, a former offensive lineman from Michigan, announced his decision to join the Jayhawks via social media.
Originally a highly regarded recruit from Southfield, Michigan, Herring spent his freshman year at Michigan, redshirting. During the past season, he saw limited action, playing one snap at right guard against Indiana in October. Herring, who stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 300 pounds, also happens to be the cousin of freshman quarterback Isaiah Marshall, who expressed his excitement and support for Herring’s decision on social media.
Herring had initially chosen Michigan over several schools, including Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Penn State, during his high school recruitment. Now, he joins a Kansas offensive line undergoing a transition, with vacancies at the left tackle and center positions due to the departure of starting center Mike Novitsky to graduation, left tackle Dominick Puni to the NFL, and guard Armaj Reed-Adams to the transfer portal.
