The Dallas Stars emerged victorious against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game Seven on Sunday evening, breaking a tied game with an early third-period goal and securing a 2-1 win. This means they will face the Colorado Avalanche in the second round, with the series starting in just 48 hours on Tuesday evening. As the Stars won the Central Division and had a higher point total in the regular season, they’ll have home-ice advantage in this round.
The two teams faced each other four times this season, with the Avalanche winning three of those matches. Notably, the Avalanche staged impressive comebacks in two games in Dallas, while the Stars secured their only victory late in the regular season at Ball Arena. However, as demonstrated in the previous series against the Winnipeg Jets, regular-season performance doesn’t necessarily predict playoff outcomes.
While it was expected that the Stars would prevail against the Golden Knights, Vegas put up a strong fight, showing why they’re champions. Now, the Stars will meet a very different Avalanche team, known for their speed and skill.
In the four games between the two teams this season, there were a total of 35 goals scored. Here’s the full schedule for the series, along with the Western Conference series between Vancouver and Edmonton.
Colorado Hockey Now will once again be on the road for this series, as I’ll be booking my flights to Dallas tonight. Stay tuned for comprehensive Avalanche coverage throughout the postseason.
