Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith is actively pursuing recruits in his first offseason with the team, aiming to be more assertive on the recruiting trail.
Recently, Jalen Lott, a four-star wide receiver from the class of 2026, revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that he has received an offer from Michigan State. Lott mentioned that he had a conversation with Spartans wide receiver Courtney Hawkins.
Lott is currently entering his junior year at Panther Creek High School in Frisco, Texas. In the previous season, he amassed 513 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 29 catches for Lovejoy High School in Lucas, Texas. This performance helped his team reach the Texas 5A Division II regional finals, as reported by Gabe Brooks of 247Sports.

Lott, who is also a standout in track and field, clinched the 2024 Texas UIL 4A state title in long jump.
According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Lott holds the No. 12 spot among wide receivers nationally in the class of 2026 and is ranked as the 150th-best prospect overall.
He is the son of James Lott, a former University of Texas cornerback.
In addition to Michigan State, Lott has received offers from a plethora of other schools including Michigan, Illinois, LSU, Notre Dame, USC, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Miami (FL), Baylor, SMU, and Texas, among others. 247Sports indicates that the Longhorns are the frontrunners to secure his commitment.
With two more seasons of high school football ahead of him, Jalen Lott is expected to continue improving. While Michigan State faces stiff competition in recruiting him, if successful, they could anticipate significant development from him despite already being a highly regarded four-star recruit as a sophomore.
