BREAKING NEWS: Rutgers starting QB key man transfers to SEC school

Former Rutgers starting quarterback Gavin Wimsatt has opted to transfer to a school in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Wimsatt made the announcement on Tuesday that he will be transferring to Kentucky.

Kentucky issued a press release confirming the news and stated that Wimsatt will have two years of eligibility left.

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops expressed his enthusiasm about Wimsatt joining the team, emphasizing the value of game experience at the quarterback position and the opportunity to enhance the team’s talent and experience.

Last season, Wimsatt started in all 13 games for Rutgers, leading them to a 7-6 record and a victory in a bowl game. He threw for 1,735 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in 2023, while also rushing for 497 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Wimsatt decided to transfer from Rutgers after losing the starting position during spring to Athan Kaliakmanis, a transfer from Minnesota.

At Kentucky, Wimsatt will likely serve as a backup to Brock Vandagriff, who transferred from Georgia.
