Some key pieces of the puzzle were still unused, but everyone knows what the final image should look like. Having depth isn’t just a preference for Nebraska’s running back position, it’s a necessity.
“We’ve always aimed to have a primary back for 20 carries, a secondary back for 12 carries, and then rotate three guys,” explained Matt Rhule this spring. “It looks like we have enough players to accomplish that.”
That’s the plan, ideally with Gabe Ervin Jr. and Rahmir Johnson fully healthy and contributing. Plus, if Emmett Johnson continues to progress, and perhaps one of the younger players finds their groove, then everything falls into place.
