Breaking news: Beavers 21-years old star breaks OSU all-time record

Travis Bazzana, the Oregon State University second baseman, made history in Corvallis by surpassing a long-standing Beaver baseball record previously held by Darwin Barney since 2007. Bazzana’s 239th hit, a resounding double in the second inning against UCLA, officially established a new milestone for the renowned program.

Hailing from Australia, Bazzana, a junior, has been having a remarkable season for the eighth-ranked Beavers. His batting average of .425 and his 26 home runs—another program record—lead the Pac-12 in both categories. Additionally, his 59 RBIs place him second, just behind his teammate Gavin Turley.

Darwin Barney, originally from Portland, played a pivotal role in Oregon State’s consecutive College World Series triumphs in 2006 and 2007. He later went on to have a career in Major League Baseball from 2010 to 2017, representing the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Toronto Blue Jays.

Presently, the Beavers hold the second position in the Pac-12 standings. They are gearing up to face the league-leading Arizona Wildcats in a three-game series commencing Thursday, marking the conclusion of the regular season.
