Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi identified a shortage in his defensive end lineup when he glanced at the depth chart and noticed only three players beyond their freshman or redshirt freshman years. To address this, he turned to the transfer portal and recently secured a verbal commitment from Chief Borders, a former defensive end from Nebraska. Borders, hailing from Franklin, Georgia, will be transitioning to his third collegiate team in as many years, having previously played at Florida in 2021 and 2022 before joining Nebraska for the 2023 season.
The Panthers had to contend with the departure of three defensive ends since the previous season’s conclusion: Dayon Hayes and Sam Okunlola, who transferred to Colorado, and Nate Temple, who sustained a season-ending injury.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 245 pounds, Borders contributed in 16 games during his time at Florida, tallying three tackles, before moving to Nebraska, where he appeared in 12 games and recorded nine tackles.

With two more seasons of eligibility remaining, Borders will bolster Pitt’s defensive end corps, which already includes senior players Bam Brima and Nate Matlack, a transfer from Kansas State, along with sophomore Jimmy Scott.
Pittsburgh has been active in fortifying its roster for the 2024 season, having added a total of 14 transfers.
