Aaron Nola dominated the New York Mets, retiring the first 15 batters he faced and tossing a four-hitter to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-0 victory. This win marked the Phillies’ 22nd victory in 27 games, making them the first team in the majors to reach 30 wins this season. Nola, with a record of 5-2, struck out eight batters without allowing a walk, securing his sixth career complete game. Alec Bohm contributed with two RBIs.
Despite a strong outing from Jose Butto (1-3) for the Mets, who allowed only one hit and two runs in five innings, they fell to their fourth loss in five games in a stretch against the Atlanta Braves and the Phillies. The Mets were shut out for the fourth time this season, and Nola came close to a no-hitter after the Braves narrowly missed a combined no-hitter just days before.
In other games, the Astros edged past the A’s 2-1 in 10 innings with a walk-off single from pinch hitter Victor Caratini, while the Yankees defeated the Twins 5-1 behind Giancarlo Stanton’s strong performance. The Nationals split a doubleheader with the White Sox, winning the first game 6-3 with Keibert Ruiz’s clutch hit, but falling 4-0 in the second game despite Erick Fedde’s strong pitching against his former team.
