Former Michigan State football defensive end Andrew Depaepe, upon entering the transfer portal following spring ball, remained undecided on his next destination, unlike some of his departing teammates who swiftly found new teams. Among them, Simeon Barrow chose Miami, Derrick Harmon opted for Oregon, Jaden Mangham committed to Michigan (not the most appealing choice), Ethan Boyd selected Colorado, Geno VanDeMark joined Alabama, and Bai Jobe decided on Kansas. The flurry of departures marked a busy period for Michigan State.
While Depaepe continued his search, it became apparent that he was bound for another Big Ten program. Eventually, he settled on Indiana after deliberating for a few weeks, poised to play a significant role in the Hoosiers’ defensive line rotation under Curt Cignetti’s rebuilding regime.
Though his choice might raise eyebrows given Indiana’s football reputation, Depaepe’s decision was influenced by familial ties. His younger brother William, a three-star recruit in Indiana’s 2024 class, will also be donning the Hoosiers’ jersey. Their joint venture at the collegiate level promises mutual support and synergy, making Indiana an appealing destination for Depaepe, where ample playing time awaits.

His departure is a loss for the Spartans, as Depaepe seemed destined for a prominent role in Michigan State’s future, alongside Bai Jobe, who similarly saw limited action during the Mel Tucker era before entering the transfer portal. Both players sought fresh starts elsewhere.
Despite his move, Depaepe will likely find support from Michigan State fans, except when facing his former team on the field.
