Yankees power hitter Juan Soto left a note on the grass in right field for his former teammate Fernando Tatis Jr. during the eighth inning of New York’s 8-0 victory on Friday night. Tatis found the note and seemed to find it amusing.
Soto didn’t disclose the contents of the note but mentioned, “It was something nice. He seemed to enjoy it because when I hit the double, he looked over, and we shared a laugh.”
In his first game back in San Diego since being traded to the Yankees on December 7, Soto smashed a lengthy two-run homer in the third inning. Padres fans booed him, while Yankees supporters cheered him at Petco Park. Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton also hit impressive home runs off Yu Darvish in the third inning, and Gleyber Torres led off the fourth with a homer.
Soto added a double in the ninth inning.
The Padres acquired Soto in an eight-player trade with Washington on August 2, 2022.
