Oregon State University enthusiasts now have the opportunity to acquire a special edition license plate featuring the iconic beaver logo set against a backdrop of tree growth rings. To secure this distinctive plate, individuals can purchase a $40 voucher directly from the university in Corvallis. Once 3,000 vouchers are sold, the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles will commence production of the plates, a process expected to span four to six months.
Of the $40 fee, approximately $35 will be directed to Oregon State, with the proceeds earmarked to bolster OSU athletics and various university marketing endeavors. Notably, the current Oregon State license plate, sporting the traditional Oregon design accentuated by an orange Beaver sticker, will be phased out upon the availability of the new plate. While holders of the existing plate are encouraged to transition to the updated design, such a move is not obligatory.
The design of the new plate, crafted by a creative team at OSU, incorporates the university’s distinctive black, orange, and white colors. It also features the inscription “The Beaver State” at the bottom, paying homage to Oregon’s nickname, the university’s mascot, and the state flag, which showcases a beaver on its reverse side. Additionally, the inclusion of tree rings in the background serves as a nod to OSU’s identity, while establishing a link to the standard Oregon license plate adorned with the image of the Douglas fir, the state’s official tree.
Those opting for the new plate have the option to further personalize it for an additional charge imposed by the DMV. Alternatively, they can retain their current six-digit license plate configuration, also subject to an extra DMV fee.
