JUST IN: Warriors’ Trade Offer Add Projected $162 Million Miami All-Star

Among the plethora of trade speculations circulating about the Warriors, one particularly intriguing possibility is the potential acquisition of Miami Heat standout Jimmy Butler. Considered an odd yet captivating idea, Butler’s addition could bring a similar defensive tenacity and all-around versatility as Draymond Green, while also boasting a strong reputation as a scorer and performer in the playoffs.

However, uncertainty clouds the situation as the Warriors are unsure if Butler will even be available for trade in the upcoming weeks. Despite some criticism from Heat president Pat Riley regarding Butler’s postseason injuries during a recent press conference, Riley unequivocally stated that Butler is not up for grabs.

While Riley’s firm “no” in May indicated no immediate plans to trade Butler, many suspect that circumstances could change. Butler seeks a contract extension worth $162 million over three years, a proposition the Heat are hesitant to agree to, especially considering Butler will turn 35 in September. Additionally, concerns linger about aligning with Bam Adebayo’s timeline, as he approaches his 27th birthday next month.

While the notion of trading away Butler may seem improbable given his integral role in the Heat’s identity, some NBA executives speculate that the timing might be right for such a move.

Jimmy Butler Have a Say in Trade Destination

If timing is the primary concern, then teaming up with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green of the Warriors would make Butler an ideal player fit. In the event of an impasse between the Heat and Butler regarding his extension, and if the Heat opt to trade him, Butler would likely have a say in choosing his next team.

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, there’s a possibility of the Warriors expressing interest if the Heat decide to trade Butler. A league executive mentioned that should the Heat explore trading Butler, they would respect his preferences and not send him to undesirable destinations like Detroit or Portland.

While Butler might be interested in playing for the Sixers, facilitating a trade would likely require involvement from a third team due to Philadelphia’s current limitations in cap space and future picks, which wouldn’t significantly benefit Miami’s immediate competitiveness.

Although the Knicks could be interested in Butler, any potential deal would likely involve Julius Randle, whom the Heat are not keen on acquiring. However, the Warriors possess players that could be valuable to Miami, making them a favored destination if they pursue Butler.

Warriors Would Need to Part with Two Up-and-Coming Young Players

However, it would come with a hefty price tag and potentially compromise the future prospects of the Warriors. Golden State would need to bank on the possibility of Andrew Wiggins bouncing back in the upcoming season, while also parting ways with two promising young talents, Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga.

This would undoubtedly leave a mark. Kuminga, particularly, has been showing significant growth at just 21 years old, while Moody is still only 22. Nevertheless, the combined package of these two players, along with Wiggins and additional salary fillers, represents what insiders refer to as a “Godfather” offer, one that the Heat would find difficult to turn down.

According to an executive, “The Warriors are the team to keep an eye on because Miami isn’t looking to rebuild; they aim to reshape around Bam. If the Warriors present this ‘Godfather’ offer, they could keep Miami competitive while injecting youth and improving their overall position.”

The executive further explains, “And Jimmy Butler would likely be open to joining forces with Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Steve Kerr. If a trade were to happen, the options are limited. The Warriors possess the most appealing assets to make it a reality.”
