According to a report from the Portuguese outlet Record, Wolves have shown interest in FC Porto defender David Carmo. Alongside Premier League rivals Leicester City, they’ve approached the Liga Portugal side regarding the potential signing of the center-back. Carmo recently completed a six-month loan spell at Greek club Olympiacos, where he contributed to their Europa Conference League victory, playing a key role in four clean sheets during the tournament.
Despite being under contract with FC Porto until 2027, Olympiacos holds an option to purchase Carmo. Discussions regarding his future are scheduled for this week, with Olympiacos expressing a desire to retain him. Carmo has previously been linked with a move to England, with former Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday boss suggesting he was close to joining Liverpool. However, a £17 million move to Anfield fell through, and he remained in Portugal, moving from Braga to Porto for a fee of around €20 million. He was also previously linked with a move to Wolves as a potential replacement for Conor Coady.
Currently on international duty with Angola, Carmo made his debut in March 2024 and is aiming to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Angola recently defeated Eswatini with Carmo in the squad and are set to face Cameroon on June 11th.
In other news, reports from The News in Portsmouth indicate that Wolves have secured the signing of 14-year-old goalkeeper Xander Grieves from Portsmouth. While a transfer fee is required, Pompey’s receipt is limited due to the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP). The Championship club has included future incentives in the deal should Grieves’ career prove successful.
