Fulham’s Tim Ream is in advanced discussions to move to Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Charlotte FC. The 36-year-old American defender, who will turn 37 in October, had limited playing time last season, featuring in just one of Fulham’s last 13 matches. Despite signing a contract extension until June 2025 last December, Ream is now being pursued by Charlotte for a potential summer transfer.
Managed by former Brentford and Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, Charlotte FC aims to bolster its defensive lineup with Ream’s potential addition. If the deal materializes, Ream would be the second centre-back to depart Fulham this summer, following Tosin Adarabioyo’s expected move to Chelsea on a free transfer.
Ream and Adarabioyo formed a key defensive partnership under Marco Silva’s management at Fulham, leaving the club with Calvin Bassey and Issa Diop as the only experienced central defenders. Silva emphasized the need to recruit at least two centre-backs during the transfer window to maintain competitiveness in the Premier League next season.
Since joining Fulham from Bolton in 2015, Ream has accumulated 312 appearances over nine years. Internationally, he has represented the United States on 56 occasions since his debut in 2010, contributing to CONCACAF Nations League victories in 2021 and 2024.
As Fulham prepares for a defensive revamp this summer, the club is actively scouting various centre-back options to strengthen its squad.
