The Buffalo Sabres have elevated Jerry Forton to the position of assistant general manager and enlisted Chris Bergeron as an amateur free agent scout, as announced by the team on Tuesday.

Forton, who has been with the Sabres since the 2020-21 season, previously held roles as director of amateur scouting, director of collegiate scouting, assistant director of scouting, and amateur scout. During his tenure as director of amateur scouting, the Sabres drafted 35 players, including seven first-round picks. In his new capacity as assistant GM, Forton will oversee both the amateur and pro scouting departments.

General manager Kevyn Adams expressed his enthusiasm for Forton’s promotion, praising his dedication and work ethic and affirming confidence in his continued contributions to the organization.

Bergeron, the former head coach of Miami University (Ohio) hockey program and Bowling Green State University, joins the Sabres as an amateur free agent scout. Adams highlighted Bergeron’s accomplishments in college hockey and his focus on player progression and development as key attributes for his new role within the organization.
