Nebraska football has decided against recruiting three running backs for the 2025 class. Instead, they are focusing on Mekhi Nelson, a running back who, des
pite being unranked by the 247 Sports composite rankings, holds a three-star rating in the 247 Sports rankings. Sean Callahan of Husker Online clarified that Nelson is actually a 2024 recruit.
Originally slated to attend a Prep School this fall, Nelson may join the Huskers for the 2024 season. This decision aligns with Nebraska’s aim to bolster their running back lineup, especially after David Hoffken’s recent commitment, where he will transition from offensive tackle to the defensive side. EJ Barthel, the team’s running backs coach, is familiar with Nelson from Connecticut.
The Huskers have also extended an offer to a junior college running back who recently graduated, indicating their commitment to strengthening the running back roster. With two crystal ball predictions favoring Nebraska and an upcoming official visit scheduled, Nelson’s addition could fulfill the team’s need for a 2024 recruit in that position.
Another crystal ball trend for Nebraska football
The Huskers secured the commitment of Malcolm Simpson from the official visitors last weekend, and the next potential addition could be Brian Tapu, a 6-foot-8, 300-pound offensive tackle. Hailing from Utah, Tapu is highly regarded for his potential. He spoke enthusiastically about his visit, receiving positive assessments from experts like Sean Callahan on Sunday, followed by a prediction from Steve Wiltfong of On3.com on Monday. There’s a strong sense that Tapu, with his considerable talent, could be the next recruit to join Nebraska’s 2025 recruiting class.
Additionally, Nebraska is expected to secure the commitment of Noah King, a three-star athlete from Ohio, who will soon be visiting the campus officially.
Nebraska Cornhuskers add outfielder from SEC
The Nebraska softball team is gearing up for a return to the NCAA tournament in 2025 with the addition of outfielder Kacie Hoffman, who is transferring from Arkansas back to her home state. Hoffman, originally from Elkhorn and a former standout at Elkhorn South, brings valuable experience to the Cornhuskers. She earned All-SEC Tournament honors in 2022 and will bolster a roster that includes the return of Jordy Bahl from injury.
During her sophomore season in 2023, Hoffman started 54 games in right field for the Razorbacks. She posted a batting line of .223/.439/.294 with 33 hits, 27 RBIs, 22 runs scored, 11 doubles, and seven home runs. Defensively, she maintained a .941 fielding percentage across 34 total chances.
Hoffman’s return to Nebraska adds depth and skill to the outfield, enhancing the team’s prospects as they aim for success in the upcoming season and a berth in the NCAA tournament.
