Since his arrival in Lubbock, Texas, Joey McGuire, head coach of Texas Tech football, has been steadfast in his efforts to bolster the team’s offensive line through traditional means — recruiting promising talents from high schools. This approach continues with their latest addition for the class of 2025, as the Red Raiders have secured a commitment from 3-star prospect Patrick McMath.

Hailing from Katy, Texas, McMath stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 255 pounds. According to 247Sports.com, he ranks as the 1241st player nationally and the 91st best interior offensive lineman. In Texas, he’s recognized as the 191st top prospect in his class according to composite rankings.

McMath marks Texas Tech’s first offensive lineman commitment in this recruiting cycle. Alongside interest from Big 12 peers like Arizona, Baylor, BYU, and Houston, McMath had garnered attention from programs across various conferences.

Texas Tech has faced ongoing challenges in fortifying its offensive line, a legacy of previous coaching regimes under Kliff Kingsbury and Matt Wells, which struggled to replenish talent in that crucial area. McGuire and his staff have been proactive in addressing this, making significant additions via transfers and through intensive recruiting efforts.

Looking ahead, Texas Tech anticipates starting three former transfers on its offensive line this season, underscoring the ongoing efforts to solidify the team’s front. The program’s recruitment strategy has included acquiring eight offensive linemen via transfer portals during McGuire’s tenure, reflecting a focused approach to shoring up this critical position.

Heading into the 2025 season, the Red Raiders face impending vacancies among their starting offensive linemen, with several key players set to graduate. Despite recent decommitments affecting their 2025 class, Texas Tech’s recruiting efforts have positioned them favorably, currently holding the 25th spot in national rankings according to 247Sports.
