Texas Longhorns icon Colt McCoy, who quarterbacked the team for four years and guided them to the national championship game in 2009, has decided to step away from football. Having retired from the NFL a few months ago, McCoy cited worsening physical ailments as the reason for his departure.
Reflecting on his decision, McCoy shared with Sports Illustrated that his physical condition no longer allowed him to continue playing. Looking ahead,
the former Texas star expressed uncertainty about leaving football entirely, remarking, “37 years of my life I’ve been playing football. I started at three years old as the waterboy on my dad’s high school football team and I haven’t missed a day since. And so to walk away from football full-time I don’t think that’s a reality.”
