The Telegraph has reported surprising developments today regarding Newcastle’s attempt to acquire Wolves’ center-back Max Kilman through a player-plus-cash offer. According to Midlands reporter John Percy, Newcastle proposed a part-exchange deal involving Elliot Anderson and additional funds. However, it appears Wolves have swiftly rejected this offer despite mounting interest in Kilman’s services.

Wolves’ disinterest in the proposal contrasts with their recent rejection of a £25m bid from West Ham on Friday. This decision comes as Wolves’ manager, Julen Lopetegui, seeks to reunite with Kilman, whom he previously coached at Molieux.

The Telegraph notes that Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is hesitant to part ways with Anderson, a promising talent from the local area. Nevertheless, Anderson was included as a sweetener in Newcastle’s initial bid, which has now been rebuffed within the last 24 hours. Kilman is reportedly valued at £40m by Wolves.

Last season, Kilman, aged 27, demonstrated his durability by playing every minute for Wolves. His consistent performances have also drawn interest from Manchester United, who have identified him as a potential addition to their roster of center-back options. Notably, Napoli had previously offered £30m for the towering 6ft 4in defender during the last summer transfer window.

These developments underscore the competitive market for Kilman’s signature and the strategic maneuvering between clubs as they seek to strengthen their defensive ranks ahead of the upcoming season.
