247Sports reports that convincing recruits to switch commitments away from Arizona State University is notable, but persuading them to turn down in-state offers from Texas schools represents a greater challenge.

Swayde Griffin, Lago Vista, Cornerback

Arizona’s impressive recruiting success last Sunday included four public commitments, highlighted by 3-star cornerback Swayde Griffin, who had previously pledged to Texas Tech. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 185 pounds, Griffin is ranked as the No. 1,214 player in the 2025 recruiting class by 247Sports, making him the 106th-best cornerback nationally and the 192nd prospect in Texas. Despite previous offers from the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Minnesota, Griffin had initially committed to Texas Tech on June 10.

Hailing from Lago Vista near Austin, Griffin is the current Texas Class 4A champion in the 110-meter hurdles and joins several UA commits in the 2025 class who have backgrounds in track and field. Griffin marks Arizona’s third flipped commitment for the 2025 class, following 3-star in-state cornerback Dajon Hinton (flipped from ASU) and 3-star quarterback Robert McDaniel (flipped from Cal). He also becomes the fourth defensive back and the fifth Texan to commit to Arizona in this recruiting cycle, marking the highest number of recruits from Texas since Arizona signed six in 2021.

Griffin’s commitment was part of a significant recruiting day for Arizona, which also secured commitments from Hinton, 3-star Texas safety Allen Gant, and 3-star California offensive lineman Sione Tohi. With a total of 11 public commitments, Arizona’s 2025 recruiting class currently ranks 51st nationally according to 247Sports and 10th within the Big 12 conference.
