According to a report by Matt Hughes at The Sun, Newcastle United has reached an agreement worth £40 million with Lyon. However, the Gambian player in question is hesitant to finalize the move to France and has declined to enter into discussions regarding personal terms. His preference is to remain in the Premier League.
This development marks the second potential transfer to collapse for Newcastle in recent days. Previously, Everton’s pursuit of the 19-year-old was called off, and now Newcastle has withdrawn from negotiations to acquire Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Newcastle faces a pressing need to generate funds before the Profit and Sustainability deadline on June 30. It is understood that Minteh had been identified as a player who could be sold to ensure compliance with Premier League regulations and avoid potential penalties such as points deductions.
The report reveals that Minteh has communicated to Newcastle’s management that he will not be pressured into a transfer that does not align with his own preferences, despite being aware of the club’s urgent requirement to offload players in the coming days.
