Tennessee continued its successful recruiting streak on Tuesday with the addition of three-star defensive back Tre Poteat from Wisconsin, who committed to the Volunteers for the class of 2025.
Poteat opted for Tennessee over offers from prominent programs such as Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, Penn State, and others, with Wisconsin being the only other school he visited officially besides Tennessee, where he visited last weekend.

Ranked 545th overall in his class by 247Sports, Poteat is rated as the 48th best cornerback and the fourth best player in Wisconsin. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 175 pounds, he currently plays for Verona Area High School and plans to begin college early this winter.
Tre Poteat’s football lineage includes his father, Hank Poteat, a former NFL cornerback who enjoyed a decade-long career and now coaches cornerbacks at Iowa State after being drafted in the third round.
Poteat joins Tennessee’s 2025 class alongside fellow defensive backs Dylan Lewis, Tyler Redmond, and Sidney Walton, all rated as three-star prospects. With Poteat’s commitment, Tennessee’s recruiting class now boasts 15 commitments, lifting their ranking to 12th nationally according to 247Sports.
