Ivan Toney has commented on the ongoing speculation about his future, as Arsenal and Chelsea remain keen on signing the striker this summer. Initially priced at £80m by Brentford in January, his valuation has since dropped to £60m ahead of the new season, as the club aims to capitalize on the 28-year-old’s contract situation with only one year left.
While Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly the frontrunners for his signature, Toney himself isn’t overly concerned about the rumors. Speaking ahead of England’s Euro 2024 group game against Slovenia, he emphasized his focus on performing well for his country: “I can’t predict what will happen in the future. My main priority is to play well for England. I’ve dealt with transfer speculation in the past, so I don’t let external noise affect me.”
Meanwhile, Brentford’s manager Thomas Frank hinted during Euro 2024 punditry that the acquisition of Igor Thiago from Club Brugge is part of their preparation for Toney’s potential departure: “We plan ahead, acknowledging the swirling rumors around Ivan. While I’d prefer to keep him as he’s a top player, we’re ready and have brought in Igor Thiago in anticipation of possible changes.”
