Birmingham City endured a challenging season culminating in relegation to League One, prompting a period of rebuilding under new manager Chris Davies, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur. However, the club now faces the prospect of potentially losing James amid heightened interest from various quarters.

James, considered one of Birmingham City’s most valuable assets, faces significant attention from Serie A giants Atalanta, as well as Premier League clubs West Ham United and Leicester City. Adding to the competition for his signature, Nottingham Forest has now entered the fray, keen to bolster their squad following a successful Premier League campaign.

James’ stature in football has grown markedly over the past year, reflecting his progression from the club’s academy ranks through to a pivotal role in the first team. During the 2021/22 season, he featured prominently in 21 appearances across all competitions, further solidifying his reputation as a promising midfield talent.

As transfer negotiations unfold, Birmingham City must navigate the challenge of retaining James amid heightened interest from both domestic and international clubs seeking to secure his services ahead of the new season.

Since then, he has gone on to feature in 84 more matches for Birmingham City, bringing his total appearances for the club to 105 in his career so far.

Birmingham hopes James will add more to that tally, but as he enters the final year of his contract and interest from other clubs grows, it may be difficult for Birmingham City to resist.

The club does have an option to extend his contract for another year, but now that they are in League One, James’ departure seems likely.

Jordan James is clearly a talented player destined for success, but unfortunately for Birmingham City, it appears unlikely he will achieve that with them.

James has excelled since breaking into the first team, and even if Birmingham had stayed in the Championship, retaining him would have been challenging. Now in League One, it seems nearly impossible.

The focus now is on securing the best possible deal for James, and for him, it’s about finding a club where he can continue to play and develop in the best possible environment.
