The deal is expected to involve Elliot Anderson moving to address the PSR concerns of both clubs. Elanga, who joined Forest from Manchester United last year, had a productive season with five goals and nine assists, aiding the club in avoiding relegation.
Anderson, a product of Newcastle’s youth academy, has struggled to secure a regular place in Eddie Howe’s starting lineup. With both clubs needing to meet Profit and Sustainability regulations before the upcoming deadline, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook suggests the swap could benefit both sides.
Crook commented in The Warm Up, “This deal is about helping each other with PSR. Elanga is moving, and he’s the kind of player Eddie Howe could develop further. For Newcastle, facing the need to sell players to comply with PSR, this deal makes sense.”
Earlier reports indicated Newcastle’s urgency to sell players like Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak to comply with PSR. However, according to Crook, the focus has shifted to English players like Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier, with interest from West Ham, Saudi Arabia, and AC Milan respectively.
