When Nico Collins was drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, he expressed his ambition to be remembered among the greatest receivers in NFL history.
Fast forward four years, Collins achieved a significant milestone by becoming just the fourth wide receiver in Texans’ history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a season, alongside Brandin Cooks, DeAndre Hopkins, and Hall of Famer Andre Johnson. In the 2023 season, he recorded 1,297 yards on 80 receptions with eight touchdowns, contributing to the Texans’ 10-7 record.
His outstanding performance in 2023 led to a three-year contract extension in May, solidifying his status as one of the premier receivers in the league. Recently, The Sporting News recognized Collins as the Texans’ most crucial player outside of the quarterback position.
Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Collins remains a cornerstone for the Texans, now supported by the presence of Stefon Diggs, acquired from the Buffalo Bills in April. With emerging talent like Tank Dell and the veteran prowess of Diggs, Collins is poised to lead a formidable receiving corps that fuels high expectations for the Texans’ upcoming campaign.
