Texas A&M has chosen Michael Earley to step into the role of the university’s 21st baseball coach, following the departure of Jim Schlossnagle to rival Texas. Earley, who served as the Aggies’ hitting coach for the past three seasons, played a significant role in the team’s achievements, including guiding them to two College World Series appearances and a notable second-place finish in 2024.
In announcing the appointment, athletic director Trev Alberts highlighted Earley’s exceptional coaching abilities and his strong rapport with both current and former players. Alberts expressed confidence in Earley’s character and leadership qualities, noting his impressive performance during the interview process. Looking ahead, Alberts expressed optimism about the future of Aggie baseball under Earley’s guidance.
Before joining Texas A&M, Earley built a solid coaching career with a five-year tenure at Arizona State, where he served as the hitting coach for four seasons. His baseball journey began as a standout player at Indiana University, followed by a professional career with the Chicago White Sox organization, where he reached the Triple-A level.
Earley expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Aggies, describing it as a dream come true for himself and his family. He pledged to give his utmost dedication to the university and the baseball program, aiming to uphold its traditions of excellence and competitiveness.
The transition comes at a pivotal time for Texas A&M, as they prepare to face Texas more regularly following the Longhorns’ move to the SEC from the Big 12. Earley’s appointment marks a new chapter in Aggie baseball, with expectations high for continued success and growth under his leadership.
