The Los Angeles Rams failed to maximize Cam Akers’ potential. Despite his talent, there was always a sense that he fell short, and undisclosed issues with the organization led to his departure. He was anticipated to shine with the Minnesota Vikings, but a season-ending Achilles injury dashed those hopes.
Nevertheless, the Vikings are not giving up on the 25-year-old. According to insider Charley Walters, they might re-sign him pending a successful physical (via The Purple Persuasion). While the addition of Aaron Jones strengthens their running back corps, they still need reliable depth, especially given Jones’s injury history, making Akers a viable option.
Akers managed only 167 rushing yards last season, most of them during his brief stint in Minnesota. In his five games before the injury, he showed promise. While not as explosive as Ty Chandler, he appears to be a more dependable choice as RB2.
Akers still has much to prove but could earn a larger role elsewhere if he excels in Minnesota. The Vikings could acquire him at a favorable price, which aligns well with their needs, particularly under Kevin O’Connell’s offensive scheme with Sam Darnold and J.J. McCarthy.
