Frankfort (Ky.) Western Hills defensive lineman Javeon Campbell declared his commitment to Kentucky on Tuesday, enhancing the Wildcats’ Top 25 recruiting class with another prized four-star addition. Both 247Sports and the 247Sports Composite rank him as the top recruit in Kentucky.

Campbell, standing at 6-5 and weighing 265 pounds, initially focused on basketball before transitioning to football at the urging of his coaches at Western Hills. Excelling quickly, he racked up 14.5 sacks in his junior season despite starting football just a year prior.

Kentucky stood out to Campbell due to the welcoming environment fostered by the coaching staff and their honesty. “All the coaches at Kentucky made it feel like home there and the way they are so honest and just great overall people,” Campbell commented.

Despite considering offers from top-tier programs like Alabama, Georgia, and Miami, Campbell chose Kentucky, citing the strong community support and the program’s promising future. His commitment marks Kentucky’s 15th for their incoming class, bolstering a robust defensive line that includes other standout recruits like Cedric Works and Nicholas Smith.

Simon Vanderpool, head coach at Western Hills, praised Campbell’s potential, highlighting his rare combination of size, speed, and determination that could lead him to excel at the collegiate level and beyond.
