The Mets have been actively adjusting their roster in response to challenges like Edwin Díaz’s suspension and various injuries. Their latest move involves optioning Tyler Jay, who had a shaky outing recently, and calling up José Buttó from Triple A. Buttó returns to the majors after a stint in the minors lasting over a month.
Earlier this season, Buttó made seven starts for the Mets, posting a respectable 3.08 ERA over 38 innings with a high strikeout rate, albeit with some control issues (5 BB/9). His performance in Triple A mirrors this, as he holds a 3.05 ERA across eight starts spanning 44.1 innings, with improved walk and strikeout metrics.
Currently, Buttó is expected to contribute out of the bullpen while maintaining readiness to start as needed in the future. His addition aims to bring stability to a Mets relief corps facing significant challenges.
