Donovan Mitchell has signed a three-year, $150.3 million maximum contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, ensuring his stay with the team. The agreement also includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.
This deal provides stability for the Cavaliers by securing their key player beyond the upcoming season. For Mitchell, it guarantees a total of $185 million over four years and positions him to qualify for a significant extension in 2027, potentially worth more than $380 million, based on his service in the league.
Mitchell and his agent, Austin Brown of CAA Basketball, finalized the extension with Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman during a meeting in Los Angeles. Mitchell’s decision to commit to the extension reflects his confidence in the organization’s ability to build a championship contender and aligns with their shared vision for success.
With Mitchell’s extension settled, attention now shifts to his teammate Darius Garland, amid speculation about his future with the team if Mitchell re-signed.
Mitchell, who earned his fifth consecutive All-Star selection last season, has been a cornerstone for the Cavaliers, leading them to consecutive playoff appearances. Despite these achievements, he aims to achieve deeper postseason success moving forward.
Congratulations to Donovan Mitchell on his latest contract — it’s certainly a substantial amount of money.
